Just as a precautionary measure, I went into the doctor today and had a hip
X-ray. Though my hip feels much better than it did originally, it just
has not healed up all that way, even after a week off the ground. I
obviously will not take a step of running until I feel it is 100%, so I'd
like to find out exactly what is wrong to facilitate the healing process.
I am nearly 100% positive this comes as a result of my body being severely
weakened by illness a couple weeks ago. On the other side of the coin,
because I can not run I have been on the bike pretty much every day. I
am feeling awesome! I went 60 miles yesterday, 40 of them pretty much
tempo with Danny and was still able to mash the last 10 at 25-26 solo.
I have been working on over-gearing a lot, my legs need more strength.
Typically I am only good at spinning a high gear... I will need to get
back in the water soon, break time is almost over.

It's amazing what just a couple days off will do. My hip, now going
over a week of bothering me, feels almost as good as new. Maybe in a
just a couple more days I will try to throw in a run. Last night went
Tempo with Domingo. 25mpg average for almost 20 miles on a small 3
mile circuit, which means lots of turn arounds. We were rolling 26-27
pretty much the whole time. Felt great! Can't wait to get back
on the run!

Still coming off of the flu a couple of weeks ago. I knew that it was
going to affect me for several weeks to come. In less than a week I
dropped from 170 to 150 pounds, and I'm only about halfway back now. I
tried to come back with some easy runs last week, but started to develop a
bad hip pain. This is worrisome to me because I have never sustained a
running related injury, and my mileage was obviously low. This makes
me feel like it is related to my sickness. Following my own rules of
training, I am going to give it a few more days off, but if it still bothers
me I am going to get it checked out. This does give me an opportunity
to swim and ride a bit more, so I will take the bad with the good.
Being BFAST champion feels good.
Godspeed,
